Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend that before you begin consistently training you first obtain an FAA medical certificate. For your private, all you are required to have is a third class medical. Without this, you will be unable to solo or hold a license, so it is important you get it as early as possible before you spend a lot of money. Also consider renters insurance-which you will need to solo, and your DC Special Flight Rules Area Training-which you will also need prior to soloing. To begin scheduling flights you may contact the front desk by phone, and we can take care of getting you a date.

We use a software called Flight Schedule Pro. To receive access to it, please contact the front desk at 240-529-5500 and we can assist you.

Periodically we have in-person ground schools throughout the year. If we have one scheduled, it will be posted on this page. If you are interested on putting your name on the waiting list, please contact the front desk. Generally, our students use online ground schools such as Sporty’s, King Schools, or Gleim Aviation. Study material is also available in our in-store shop.

While we specifically don’t offer additional financing for training, there are a few options that may help. We encourage you to apply for as many aviation scholarships as possible. These are a great way to finance training, and you don’t have to pay them back! We also offer training at our facility through the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), which can be done as a degree program or a certificate program. You may use college funds and financial aid for this. There are also financing companies that can assist with flight training, but be sure to read the fine print.
-
Yes! For your private license, you must go through CCBC to use your benefits. For anything other than private, you can still train with us through CCBC, but if you are not interested in that, you may still use them without going through the college. Please contact the front desk and we can get you in contact with the right people.

Absolutely. The rate for instruction in owner’s aircraft is $80/hr. The scheduling is the same, you just wouldn’t choose an aircraft when adding yourself to the schedule.
